AGRIMONY

Agrimonia eupatoria
( STICKLEWORT, COCKLEBUR )

Parts used: Aboveground portion
Energy and flavors: Slightly bitter, astringent,warm
Biochemical Constituents: Tannins, bitter glycosides coumarins, flavonoids, nicotinic, acid amide, silicic acid, polyaccharides, vitamins B and K, iorn and essential oil
Properties: Astringent, hemostatic, Antiinflammatory analgesic

Agrimony is commonly used as an astringent and hemostatic to inhibit bleeding, restore tone to the stomach and intestines, and counteract flaccidity. It is indicated for any symptoms associated with bleeding, including blood in the urine and in the stools. It has also been shown to have antiviral properties.

Agrimony
A good antihemorrhagic combination is equal parts agrimony, cinnamon bark and yarrow. To stop bleeding, the Chinese use the ashes of burnt hair or mugwort. The burnt ash of agrimony taken internally, as well as applied externally, is also more effective than using the unburnt herb to inhibit bleeding

Ointments and boluses are made to shrink bleeding hemorrhoids.

Dose: 6 to 15 grams taken in a mild decoction or 10 to 30 drops of the alcoholic extract
