Angelica is used to improve the circulation and warm the body, making it one of the best herbs to use for winter coldness. Because of its warming, circulating properties, it is also used for colds, coughs, rheumatic complaints (especially leg pains) gas, stomach and intestinal pains and spasms. It is also used in many common liqueurs. Regular use will create a general distaste for alcoholic drinks.
The emmenagogic action of angelica also translates into its effective blood circulating properties. Angelica, therefore, is an effective aid in regulating the female menstrul cycle. These same properties also mean that angelica should generally be avoided during pregnancy, especially during the first term. Angelica sould also be avoided by diabetics as it has a tendencey to incress blood sugar.

Angelica combines well with other emmenagogic herbs. A good combination for toning and correcting amenorrhea or dysmenorrhea is a combination of two parts angelica and one part each of false unicorn root (chamaelirium), cramp bark, blue cohosh and wild ginger. For athritic and rheumatic complaints, combine equal parts angelica root, guiacum, prickly ash, cinnamon and licorice. For cold and flu, combine angelica with other diaphoretic herbs such as ephedra, mint or lemon blam garlic and half a part licorice to smooth out the action.
Dose: 3 to 9 grams or normal tea infusion: of the tincture use 10 to 30 drops three times daily
Use angelica for: coldness, rheumatic complaints, digestive weakness and gas, menstrual irregularities, alcohol addiction, cold and coughs.
